Andover Hosts Two Juneteenth Celebrations

This year we had two Juneteenth celebrations here in Andover!

A Better Chance of Andover was proud to be present during the afternoon Juneteenth celebration at Andover Town Commons. The event had food, children activities, and many speakers including Dr. Magda Parvey, Andover Public Schools new Superintendent. “ABC is committed to educational equity and we were energized by the speakers and visitors inquiring how they can volunteer or work with our program.” shared ABC Board Vice President Sandis Wright, “While Juneteenth is a celebration, it also provides a chance to reflect on our past and recommit to racial justice moving forward.”

A second Juneteenth celebration was organized by Merrimack Valley Black and Brown Voices following their highly engaging initial celebration in June 2020. The field behind the Youth Center was full of children and adults celebrating, the first time the day has been officially recognized as a national holiday.
